4. Is bmedSleep™ covered by insurance?
|
|
|
Like a self-help book you would buy at a bookstore, bmedSleep™ is NOT covered
by insurance. Unlike a self-help book, however, bmedSleep™ provides you with a
complete and customized program that will help you from start to finish.
|
5. Should I consult my doctor?
|
|
|
As with any self-help health or wellness program, you should always consult
with your doctor before participation. This is particularly important if you
have other health issues that may be causing or contributing to your sleep
difficulties.
|
6. Is bmedSleep™ proven?
|
|
|
The behavioral strategies used in the bmedSleep™ program have been proven by a
recent review of over 100 studies using behavioral medicine interventions to
treat insomnia. This review found behavioral strategies to be as effective as
sleeping medications for short term relief from insomnia. More importantly,
although sleeping medications can be helpful for acute episodes of insomnia,
this review found that behavioral strategies produce better long
term improvements in sleep as compared to medications. When medications are
discontinued, the insomnia returns.

7. Is my information confidential?
|
|
|
Yes. Your privacy is very important to us. We will only request personal
information for payment purposes and we will never share any identifying
information with third-parties unless you give us expressed permission to do
so.
|
8. Can this program help with secondary insomnia?
|
|
|
When someone has secondary insomnia, it means that their sleep problems are
caused primarily by another medical condition. Although bmedSleep™ can
help many people with secondary insomnia, it is VERY IMPORTANT to consult with
your health care provider about participating in a behavioral self-help program
for insomnia. This program may not be helpful if your main sleep problem
is sleep apnea, narcolepsy, or restless leg syndrome.
|
9. Goal of the program
|
|
|
The overall goal of the program is to help you develop the skills you need to
bring your insomnia under control and prevent future episodes of poor sleep
from becoming a chronic problem.
It is normal for everyone to experience trouble sleeping from time to time,
especially during stressful periods. therefore, if you are currently
experiencing a major life stressor, illness or injury, or if you have been
experiencing sleep problems for less than 3 months, this program may not be
helpful to you.
This program targets persistent sleep difficulties that many insomnia sufferers
describe as "having a life of its own".
|
10. What can I expect?
|
|
|
In the early stages of the program, you should expect quality over quantity
Initially, the program will focus primarily on improving the quality and not
the quantity of your sleep. In many ways, high quality sleep that is
uninterrupted and deep is MORE important than the total amount of sleep. In
other words, getting a shorter period of GOOD sleep is usually better than
getting a longer period of fragmented or shallow sleep.
Once your sleep quality has improved, you will then focus on increasing you
sleep quantity.
Please keep in mind that people vary on how much sleep they actually need. This
program will also help you determine how much sleep is right for you.
|
11. How will I evaluate my progress?
|
|
|
bmedSleep™ will target and track your progress on the following areas:
-
Sleep Latency:
How long it takes to fall asleep
-
Nightly Awakenings:
The number of times you wake up in the middle of the night.
-
Wake Time After Sleep Onset:
The amount of time you are awake during the night.
-
Total Sleep Time:
How much sleep you achieved over the whole night.
-
Sleep Efficiency:
The percentage of time spent in bend that you are actually asleep.
-
Sleep Quality:
Your rating of how well you are sleeping
-
Feeling Refreshed: Your rating of how refreshed you feel upon waking.
|
12. How long is the program?
|
|
|
This program will be delivered in two stages. The first stage lasts
approximately 6 weeks. During this period, you will actively monitor your sleep
and other important information on a daily basis. Each week, a lesson will be
made available to you through our Internet system. Each lesson highlights
specific strategies that you can use to improve your sleep.
Since the first step in any behavior change program is a comprehensive
assessment, during the first week, you will not make any significant changes to
your sleep patterns. You will, however, track your sleep patterns through the
online bmedSleep™ Diary. Starting with week 2, you will use your bmedSleep™
Diary information to set your new sleep schedule. Although this schedule may
temporarily result in getting a little less sleep during the following week,
your sleep QUALITY is likely to improve immediately. After the first few weeks,
you will gradually increase your sleep time toward your optimal sleep schedule.
The second stage includes weeks 7 through 12. In this stage you will continue
monitoring your sleep and adding to your sleep schedule until you are at your
optimal sleep efficiency and sleep schedule.
|
13. How long will it take for me to notice
improvement?
|
|
|
If you follow the program and work hard on a daily basis, most people begin to
notice that they fall asleep quicker and spend less time awake within 2 weeks.
Some will notice improvement sooner and others may take a little longer.
